Weight-Loss Medication A Guide for Patients

Transcript

Starting weight-loss medication is an important step, and understanding how your treatment works can help you feel confident and prepared. This video explains what to expect from your medication, how to manage common side effects, and how lifestyle changes support your success. Mounjaro works by slowing how quickly food leaves your stomach - helping you feel fuller for longer, and reducing appetite. It also acts on natural signals between your gut, pancreas, and brain to support blood sugar control and sustainable weight loss. These effects begin gradually as your dose increases. Some digestive side effects are common when starting treatment or after dose increases. These include nausea, heartburn, and changes in bowel habit. For most people, these symptoms are mild to moderate and settle as the body adjusts over the first few weeks. Eating smaller, more frequent meals can help reduce nausea. Choose bland, easy-to-digest foods when symptoms are present and avoid very fatty or rich meals. Sipping fluids little and often - rather than drinking large amounts at once - may also help. Staying well hydrated supports digestion, and reduces constipation. Adequate protein intake is essential during weight-loss treatment. Aim for at least one gram of protein per kilogram of your ideal body weight each day. Prioritising protein at every meal helps protect your muscle mass, supports recovery from exercise, and helps you feel satisfied. Regular physical activity is an important part of your treatment. Combining cardiovascular exercise, such as brisk walking, with resistance training gives the best results for fat loss while preserving muscle. Aim for at least one hundred and fifty minutes of moderate activity each week, alongside two to three strength sessions. The most sustainable results come from combining medication with meaningful lifestyle changes. Working with our nutritionist, and personal trainer can help you build habits that last beyond treatment. Clinical evidence shows that structured support improves long-term weight maintenance compared with medication alone. Please contact us if side effects are persistent or affecting your daily life. Symptoms such as ongoing nausea; vomiting; or difficulty eating and drinking - should be reviewed so we can adjust your treatment plan if needed. Seek urgent medical help if you develop severe abdominal pain, especially radiating to your back, repeated vomiting, fever with abdominal pain, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. These symptoms are rare but require prompt assessment. If in doubt, do not inject until you have sought advice. Our team is here to support you at every stage of your treatment. If you have questions about side effects, nutrition, or exercise, please get in touch. Together, we can help you achieve lasting, healthy results.
